Honda Bay Palawan

Located in the east coast of the Puerto Princesa. It is 12 kilometers away from the wharf of Bgy. Sta. Lourdes in the city where visitors can hire a pump boat going to the island(s) of their choice. Sta. Lourdes wharf may be reached by tricycle, jeepneys on hire or passenger basis. Pump boat operators charge additional fee if they wait overnight. Aside from its beautiful islands, Honda Bay is also a major fishing ground in Palawan.

Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm Palawan

Known as the oldest prison without bars, it is a rehabilitation farm where the inmates live and work like free men in the fields of farming, handicrafts and woodcrafts. It is approximately 40 minutes to 1 hour away from the center of the city. Jeepneys are available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the jeepney station along Valencia St. beside the Land Transportation Office.

The Coron Wrecks and Other Dive Sites Palawan

The World War II shipwrecks at the bottom of Coron Bay and surrounding shores of Busuanga, are some of the finest dives sites in the country. Other dive sites around Coron include the Barracuda Lake, Cathedral Cave, and the Seven Picados Reef.

Cagayancillo Islands Palawan

Enchanted… They say of the place. Superstitions abound throughout Cagayancillo as spiritualism, animism, and folk Catholicism mix together to create a culture of mysticism.

Western Philippines University (WPU) Palawan

The only agricultural college in the province, it has campuses in the capital Puerto Princesa and in Aborlan, just 67 kilometers south of Puerto Princesa. The Food Technology Department has turned local produce into delectable treats such as casuy (cashew) wine and candies. The ride to Aborlan is a treat in itself. The grand Iwahig River, a few minutes into the drive is a breathtaking sight. The route takes the traveler through the sub-colonies of the Iwahig Penal Farm, providing a glimpse into the life of the inmates as they plant the vast rice and corn fields within Iwahig. At the Tacduan, monkeys crossing the zigzag road in troops are a common sight. This coastal stretch of the national highway offers a panoramic vista of Puerto Princesa Bay, the Sulu Sea and the city of Puerto Princesa City and the spires of the Immaculate Conception Cathedral.

Mt. Maruyog Farms and Garden Resort Palawan

A mountain resort in Brooke’s Point with Edison's Peak at its background. The resort has a number of air-conditioned cottages for overnight stay, swimming pool, a function room that could accommodate over a hundred guests, a mini-gallery, a sports area with facilities, and a restaurant that takes pride in its specialty “Dodoy botong” – chicken tinola sa buko, “Pinais na Sada” – grilled fish in seven herbs and “Alimango sa Labong” – crabs with coconut and bamboo shoot. The resort is near Sabsaban Waterfalls, a hot spring, and Oring-oring -the source of the biggest pearl in the world.

Coconut Crab Palawan

The coconut crab, locally known as “Tatus”, is the largest land-living arthropod in the world. It is a highly apomorphic hermit crab and is known for its ability to crack coconuts with its strong pincers in order to eat the contents. It is also called the robber crab or palm thief, because some coconut crabs are rumored to steal shiny items such as pots and silverware from houses and tents. Palawan is also rich in many other varieties of seafood, including fish, shrimp, shellfish, squid, and seaweeds.
